Alice Dowdin Calvillo
Alice Dowdin Calvillo, a fifth generation Californian, has more than 20 years of experience working in State and local government. In January 2008, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Alice to the California Public Employment Relations Board after her tenure as Chief Deputy Cabinet Secretary to the Governor. She first joined Governor Schwarzenegger's Office in 2005 as Deputy Appointments Secretary responsible for appointments within the environmental, energy and agricultural areas of government and was subsequently appointed to Chief Deputy Appointments Secretary after six months on the job before her promotion to Cabinet in 2006. Previously, she was the Governor's Legislative Director for the Department of Toxic Substances Control.
Governor Pete Wilson appointed Alice as a Chief Advisor to the California Integrated Waste Management Board in early 1 998. Previously, Alice was appointed by Governor Wilson as the Deputy Director of Legislation and Operations for the Managed Health Care Improvement Task Force. She also served as the Chief Consultant to the California State Assembly Consumer Protection, Governmental Efficiency and Economic Development Committee.
Alice was a member of the Auburn City Council from 1998-2005, and served as Mayor in 2001 and 2005. During her tenure on the Council, Alice was the Chair of the Placer County Economic Development Board, on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and the Local Agency Formation Commission for Placer County, and was a member of the Sacramento Region Advisory Board for the Great Valley Center.
The Placer County Board of Supervisors appointed Alice as the District 3 representative on the Placer County Parks Commission in 1997, and she served as its Chair in 1999 and 2000.
Active in her community, Alice is member of the Advisory Committee for PEACE for Families, the Placer County SPCA Board of Directors, and the Placer High School Hillmen Foundation. A current member of Soroptimist International of Historic Auburn, Alice served as club president and vice president In 1997, Alice was the recipient of the Auburn Business and Professional Women's Young Careerist Award and in 2003; she was honored as Woman of the Year by the California State Assembly. Alice obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science-Public Service and in German from the University of California, Davis in 1990. Alice is married to Captain Frank Calvillo, ret. United State Marine Corps and they reside in Auburn with their baby daughter Sophia.
